Moreish & Mellow Yellow Foods

Asian pears, bananas, bell peppers, lemons, pineapple, starfruit, summer squash, and all other yellow plant foods are the focus of this week’s post.

Comprising phytonutrients such as lutein, rutin and zeaxanthin, these foods help in the fight against cancer, they are anti-inflammatory, and they are super beneficial for the health of our cells, our brain, our heart, our vascular system, our eyes and our skin!

Two of my personal favourites are...

⭐️ Bananas...these energy-boosting nuggets of nature are loaded with vitamins C and B6, potassium, selenium, molybdenum, boron, copper and manganese. This electrolyte-rich fruit makes an easy and nutritious snack for those of us always ‘on the go’, helping to build strong muscles and strengthening our nervous system in the process. Did you know that they’re also considered to be an excellent “brain food”? I enjoy a banana in my smoothie every single day!

⭐️ Lemons...due to their sour, acidic taste they’re perhaps not everyone’s favourite, but these citrus stars have incredible antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties! Their phytonutrients called limonoids boost their cancer-fighting ability and did you know that lemons have such a potent alkaline reaction on our entire body? These miracle workers are abundant in vitamins C and B-complex, and the minerals of iron, magnesium, calcium, copper, silicon and potassium - making them ultra-hydrating too! Their benefits truly are numerous that I could write an entire post just on these citrus wonders.

So, how can we get more of these & other beneficial yellow foods into our daily meals?

💛 Bananas cut into pieces, frozen and then placed into a blender or a NutriBullet make the most delicious dairy-free and fat-free ice cream or ‘milkshake’!

💛 Lemon water first thing in the morning is a great way to cleanse and hydrate our body.

💛 Bell peppers are the perfect addition to salads, wraps, stir-fries, nori rolls and even dips.

💛 Pineapple rings dehydrated make really delicious, guilt-free ‘chips’.

💛 Summer squash (i.e. Gem squash) makes an excellent replacement for spaghetti.
